Sheet resistance (also known as surface resistance or surface resistivity) is a common electrical property used to characterise thin films of conducting and semiconducting materials. It is a measure of the lateral resistance through a thin square of material, i.e. the resistance between opposite sides of a square. RESISTIVITY is the inherent property of the material which gives it electrical resistance. It is sometimes called Specific Resistance. Sheet resistance is the resistance of a thin sheet of material which when multiplied by the thickness (in cm) gives the value of resistivity. Silver has a very low level of resistivity but it is not so widely used because of its cost and because it tarnishes which this can result in higher contact resistances. The oxide can act as a rectifier under some circumstance which may cause some annoying problems in RF circuits, generating what are termed passive intermodulation products.
